Trilogy about 100 years history of the Francorchamps racetrack

We already mentioned the arrival of this three-volume set in our article about the 100th anniversary of the Francorchamps racetrack. Meanwhile, the three copies have been published and we have reviewed them for you.

Book 1 and 2 were written by the same three authors. The first book covers the years between 1921 and 1956. It is a return to that period with the creation of the track, the associated problems, modification work and the continuous improvement of the infrastructure. The races from the early years are also discussed extensively.

Book 2 covers the years 1957 to 1978 and is a real gem with the first Belgian Grand Prix, the problems with high speeds and the accompanying fatal accidents, the securing of the track, the criticism of some pilots and the increase in the number of annual events. The plans for the tender for the new, shortened circuit are also discussed. But also the chapter about the local garages that put their business at the disposal of the race teams during the race weekends is a great read. On top of that, there are the accompanying photos, such as Dan Gurney sitting at the table with the family for dinner……, which is completely different today. Each match is discussed in detail with a full report. Real craftsmanship!

The third and final book takes a completely different approach. The years between 1979 and 2021 are presented more like a photo book. The photos are supplemented here with small texts. In this period, the number of matches has also increased enormously. We also get an idea of the renovations to the track and grandstands that will take place in 2022. The book ends with a tribute to the circuit director Nathalie Maillet, who died in August.

Each book has around 250 pages and is published by Editions SergioLeone. Cost for one copy: 49 euros. The three books are only available in French, but a translation into Dutch, English and German is available on request. Only a slipcase to put the three copies in is missing.
