Treat yourself to a late New Year’s gift, the Straton Special timepiece.

Now that the end-of-year festivities are just over, it might be time to give yourself another late gift. In our opinion, the Straton Special timepiece with its new colors is the ideal choice for this occasion.

Straton Watch Company is a relatively young microbrand that was launched in 2015.

The founder wanted to combine his passion for automotive history, racing and his love for watchmaking which translated into the creation of a new watch brand reflecting these interests. To date, Straton Watch has successfully launched and delivered thousands of watches to customers around the world, launching new collections every year.

The timepiece we want to discuss in this article is the “Straton Speciale” that was recently released in new colors.

The design of the Straton Speciale clearly references classic motorsports. With its square design and retro square chronograph, this has a vintage style that would not look out of place on the wrist of many a car enthusiast. A speedometer is engraved on the back of the timepiece which adds to the link to motorsports.

The white panda dial is our favorite version but in addition, the watch is available with a sunburst gray dial and a dial version with an asphalt/sandpaper texture in shades of orange or turquoise. This structure of the dial along with the square chrono reminds us a bit of the Tag Heuer Monaco Dark Lord launched in mid-2022.

So in terms of personalization, there is no shortage but in addition to the watch itself, you can optionally add a stainless steel strap in a silver color or black DLC for only $79.99. As icing on the cake, there is even an option to order a set of leather gloves in the colors of your watch or strap to complete the package.

Besides the 4 different dials, you can also choose from 2 different movements. Here you have to choose between a Swiss automatic ETA Valjoux 7750 movement with a date and day indication or a battery-powered Japanese Seiko Meca-Quartz movement where the date and day are missing. Besides the more expensive price of $1199, the version with the automatic movement with its 15.9mm is also slightly thicker than its quartz variant which with its 13mm is almost 3mm less thick and thus wears slightly more comfortably.

The hands for the hour and minutes feature Superluminova which makes the movement easy to read even in the dark. This is not the case for the chrono so it is difficult to use in low light.

Regardless of your preference for the automatic or quartz version, either way you get a beautiful and reliable watch that is also 100m water resistant. The watch is backed wit a 24 month warranty.
