Top 10 desirable classic cars

With the year-end approaching, lists apparently are a part of it. We don’t want to be left behind and have compiled a list of the most desirable classic cars below. Although I have to speak for myself, because what I like is not necessarily the same for you as a reader. Nevertheless, I am pretty sure that many of you will agree with me.

Ferrari 250 GTO

The Ferrari 250 GTO is perhaps the absolute pinnacle of this series. For example, a 250 GTO as we saw above during the FOS at Goodwood was sold for 56 million euros. This classic Ferrari model of which only 39 were built is highly sought after by collectors because of its rarity and racing heritage. Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason owns the car above and he is also at the wheel.

Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gulwing

The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing you see above in racing outfit really stands out for us anyway. It owes its fame not only to its gullwing doors. Winning its category at the 1955 Mille Miglia certainly contributed to its fame as well. An exceptionally beautifully lined car that is high on the list of many collectors.

Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost

The Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost is a luxury car produced in the early 20th century and is considered one of the best-built cars of its time. Production ran from 1906 to 1925 and 8416 were built. The car boasted a seven-litre 48hp six-in-line engine that ran so softly in neutral that you could balance a coin on it.

Lamborghini Miura

The Lamborghini Miura is a car that many give the title ‘most beautiful sports car of all time’. Produced from 1966 to 1973, the Miura received numerous upgrades during that period. The last series marked P400SV for Super Veloce is also the most coveted. Here, the transverse V12 engine delivers 385hp and made this Miura one of the fastest mass-produced cars of its time.

Aston Martin DB5

The Aston Martin DB5 is a British luxury sports car made famous by its appearance in the James Bond film Goldfinger. With bodywork designed by Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera, the DB5 could present beautiful lines. Built from 1963 to 1965, the car is rather rare with 1059 built. Another 25 were built in 2020 under the ‘Continuation’ banner.

Porsche 911

The Porsche 911 entered the market in 1963 and perhaps at that time no one could have guessed that this would become such an icon. Now in late 2022 almost 60 years after its introduction, you can step into a Porsche garage and still order a 911. Outside the GT models, the Carrera and Targa models are the most famous. The first Turbo had the type designation 930 but it was popularly known as the widowmaker. It was a car you were better off staying out of as an inexperienced pilot. But once you did control the car, the thrill was enormous.

BMW M1

With only 453 built (399 street versions and 54 Procars), this is one of the rarest BMWs ever produced. The M1 co-founded the BMW M division, then called BMW Motorsport. A car you rarely come across on public roads but which Joris wrote a handsome article about.

Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic Coupé

With only four examples built of which three are still known today, this is undoubtedly the most exclusive car in our list. The basis for this car was laid in the late 1930s by Jean Bugatti, son of Ettore Bugatti, who died in 1939. Its most famous owner is undoubtedly American fashion designer Ralph Lauren. His Bugatti Type 57SC is currently valued at over 100 million Euros.

Jaguar E-Type

Once upon a time, Enzo Ferrari is said to have said that the Jaguar E-Type was the most beautiful car in the world. Perhaps it was a slip of the tongue but it is not far off even to this day. Opinions may be divided but the E-Type’s lines can still charm many. Thanks to its low weight and powerful engines (inline six or V12), the car has a very sporty character.

Ford GT40

The Ford GT40 is not the least to end our list. Once built to beat Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Successfully by the way as the Ford GT40 dominance would last for four years. We see them at various events such as above at the Spa Six Hours.
