Tag Heuer launches its new Porsche Carrera RS 2.7 timepiece

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the mythical Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7, TAG Heuer is releasing the Carrera x Porsche RS 2.7 Limited Edition Chronograph.

During its existence, TAG Heuer has built up a serious track record as a sponsor of various car events and brands. Well-known collaborations such as the Steve McQueen Monaco and the current titanium iteration of this with Max Verstappen as the showpiece are just a few examples.

During this period, TAG Heuer has always admired the Porsche brand and this resulted in an official strategic partnership in 2021. With this collaboration, after decades of close encounters, TAG Heuer and Porsche are finally coming together officially and will create unparalleled experiences and products for their customers and fans who are passionate about both brands and what we know them for.

So the anniversary of the Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7, first launched in 1972, was an ideal time to celebrate this partnership with a new limited edition timepiece.

The TAG Heuer Carrera X Porsche RS 2.7 edition is available in 2 versions. A blue and white version with a steel exterior and a red version with a rose gold case.

Both are powered by the robust Heuer 02 movement that runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and has a power reserve of about 80 hours. The moveent can be admired through the transparent sapphire caseback, and the name Tag Heuer and Porsche is clearly visible on the rotor to further highlight the collaboration.

The dial is white in both versions and has the inscription Carrera at 12 o’clock. By using the Heuer 02 inner movement, the following functions are available on the dial: Hours – minutes – small seconds at 6 o’clock and a chronograph showing the minutes at 3 o’clock and the hours at 9 o’clock. In addition, a date window is present at the bottom of the seconds hand.

We personally do find the lack of a tachymeter an odd choice for a timepiece with a link to a car. But since the bezel of the movement has no indications and the hour markers do not consist of Arabic numerals either, this was the only logical design choice for a chrono that was still possible. We also find the limited lume on the hour markers to be on the skimpy side making the movement slightly less legible in the dark.

The rose gold edition comes with a red watch strap in alligator leather while the steel edition comes with both a blue and white nato strap and a steel strap.
