Buy a timepiece that helps save our oceans.

A timepiece that contributes to a better environment, that’s what Timex is doing with its Westbury Ocean collection. Find out how you too can do your part with this timepiece.

Introduction

Timex is a manufacturer with a real history. What many do not know is that the company is even older than Rolex, Patek Philippe and Audemar Piguet. The brand was initially founded in 1854 as the Waterbury Clock Company in Waterbury, Connecticut. Declared bankrupt in 1944, the company was transformed into Timex Corporation.

Timex’s vision is to market timepieces that are accessible to everyone. With prices ranging from 45 euros to 500 euros, this is certainly no lie and the Waterbury Ocean at 99 euros is certainly no exception. In addition to accessibility, Timex is also committed to sustainability and the preservation of our planet with its Waterbury Ocean line. This translates into a collaboration with #Tide.

Tide is an organization that collects plastic from the oceans, rivers, uncontrolled landfills and along the coasts. This collected plastic is used as raw material for the strap and case of the Westbury Ocean timepiece.

The name “Westbury” of this series refers to the origins of Timex as a company just like its construction with its timeless style yet with the tradition of innovation through the use of new materials.

Timepiece

The Westbury Ocean timepiece is available in 5 different versions. A dark gray and blue version are available in a 42mm version and a dark gray, pink and light blue version are available in a 37mm version for the slightly smaller wrist. Secretly we had also hoped for a 39mm version which is usually considered the ideal size in terms of wearability and comfort. Due to the fluted bezel and style of the bracelet, the timepiece reminds us a bit of the Rolex Datejust but without a date display and the hefty price tag. The Super-Luminova applied to the hour and minute hands and also just above the hour markers make it easy to read the timepiece even in the dark.

The dial of the timepiece is based on the ocean and in its pattern with speckles resulting from the use of recycled plastic we recognize a kind of bubbles or plankton that we also encounter underwater in the ocean.

There are also 2 limited Peanuts X Ocean editions available that feature a drawing of a snorkeling Snoopy at the bottom of the dial.

Sustainability is what this timepiece in particular is all about. Did you know that more than 1 million seabirds and 100,000 marine animals die every year due to plastic pollution ? By recycling this ocean-bound plastic and using it as material for their watches, Timex is helping to clean up our oceans and improve habitat for marine animals and seabirds.

In addition to using recycled plastic, Timex goes a step further. Through carbon-neutral transportation and solar power during production, they reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save fossil resources.

One downside to the timepiece we find is its water resistance, which at 30m is not sufficient for swimming in the ocean.
