On the occasion of the Monaco 2022 Grand Prix, Tag Heuer is launching a Special Edition of the Monaco, the “Dark Lord” edition.
A remake of a version from the 1970s but with a modern twist.
That Tag Heuer continues to regularly reinvent its Monaco model is not news.
Yet they are doing something with this “Dark Lord” edition that will make many heart beat faster. Based on a limited edition of 200 pieces from the 1970s, ref. 74033N, yet another gem is created.
The dial of the “Dark Lord” is, as the name implies, completely black.
It consists of two parts: a cylindrical brushed middle section and an unusually textured outer section with a grainy surface inspired by tires and asphalt.
The second hand and hands of the chronograph are finished in deep red, while the hour and minute hands are finished in rose gold with Super-Luminova to form a visible contrast with the black background.
Like the rest of the Monaco line, the TAG Heuer Monaco “Dark Lord” has an instantly recognizable 39mm wide square case.
Instead of a brushed and polished stainless steel case, it is finished entirely in sandblasted matte black DLC-coated Grade 2 titanium. The wedge-shaped pushers and signed crown are finished in the same matte black resulting in a uniform look.
The bottom of the movement is finished with a sapphire window that shows off the Heuer 02 inner workings. For this version, the inner workings are finished with a unique 5N rose gold version of its signature wheel-like winding rotor with tightly executed Côtes de Genève.
Like the rest of the Monaco’s, the “Dark Lord” retains a 100-meter water resistance.
