It will be the second year in a row that we miss the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Last year it was cancelled for the reason we all know by now. This year we could theoretically go. However, the practice makes it so difficult that it would be almost impossible to do.

On arrival in the UK, we would be in compulsory quarantine for 10 days and on return to Belgium we would probably have to go through it again. That would mean that we would lose a total of twenty days. And none of us liked that.

But the FOS will go ahead, albeit as a pilot event. In any case, the engines will start on Thursday 8 July and the smell of burnt rubber may well return to the Goodwood grounds.

This year’s theme revolves around the maestros, the men who can handle more than just an F1 car. Well-known names that will be present and comply with the theme are certainly Mario Andretti, Jacky Ickx and Roger Penske. There will also be a number of celebrations of Jacky Ickx and Mario Andretti, among others.

The central brand this year is Lotus, so the artwork in front of the Goodwood house will be dedicated to Lotus. In 2018, Lotus celebrated their 70th anniversary at the Goodwood estate.

The F1 teams are almost all present. These men are used to travelling around the world, so there is clearly less of a problem here.

Roger Penske is bringing eleven cars from the United States. He is one of the few who cross the Atlantic Ocean. It is a pity that only two will drive. The others will be on display.

Of course, the familiar faces such as Jochen Mass, Pirro and Kristensen will be present. And there will be a few more who might decide at the last minute.

As in previous years, quite a lot of attention is paid to the advancement of new technologies. Earlier, we saw the Robocar doing the Hillclimb all by itself. This year, there is a real Electric Avenue. For some, it is like swearing in church, but for many, this is an interesting feature, because in recent years, this department has been able to count on a lot of interest.

The rally stage, on the other hand, attracts many participants. We used to pay a little less attention to it. However, on our last visit we did hang around here and it has to be said that it was really impressive.
