History
Echo/neutra is an independent Italian watch brand founded around 2018 by Nicola Callegaro and Cristiano Quaglia.
The founders describe the brand as the result of a personal passion; they created echo/neutra “to satisfy the most demanding customer: themselves ;-)”. Their aim is to build a watch brand that reflects their vision of what they consider important in a timepiece. The brand is based in Italy (more specifically in Piove di Sacco, in the Veneto region). Their ambition is to combine Italian design with the quality of Swiss watchmaking.
In one of our previous articles, we already discussed a racing-inspired chronograph watch from the brand, and now it’s time for their new addition, the clean, minimalist Rivanera, a real gem!
The Timepiece
Where most timepieces are round in shape, the Rivanera has a rectangular shape. Some of the best-known examples that inspired this timepiece are the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso and the Cartier Tank.
The Rivanera is powered by the renowned Swiss ETA 7001 manual-winding caliber in elaboré quality. It measures 23.3 mm in diameter and is 2.5 mm thick. It is constructed with 17 jewels and has a power reserve of 42 hours when fully wound. The beautifully finished inner workings with Côtes de Genève, blued screws, and ruby-red jewels can be admired through the transparent glass on the back of the watch.
Due to the slimness of the inner workings, the movement is just under 6 mm thick, which contributes to the minimalist design.
The dial is designed in Art Deco style with applied indices that reflect light from every angle. The dial is also available in three different colors: white, gray, and black. It is housed in a titanium (Grade 5) case with a medium-coarse sandblasted finish. The dimensions of the case are 40 mm by 20 mm. The sharp, bold lines of the case create a unique contrast between shapes and materials. Certain corners and edges of the case are finished with polished details to further enhance the design, adding a refined touch to the overall look.
The small seconds hand at 6 o’clock is also a nod to the JJaeger-LeCoultre Reverso and contributes greatly to the design of the timepiece. The seconds hand is slightly recessed into the dial and embossed with concentric circles, creating depth. For those who prefer a slightly more minimalist look, there is also its little brother (or sister), the Rivanera Picolo, a version without this small seconds hand.
One criticism is the lack of Super-LumiNova, which means that the timepiece cannot be read at night without light.
The design and dimensions of the watch make it suitable for both men and women.
The watch comes standard with two different watch straps. One is made of black rubber and the other is made of high-quality black Horween shell cordovan leather.
The Rivanera comes in premium packaging, its own wooden box with the model embossed on the top. The box opens with a metal push button and contains the manual, cleaning cloth, warranty certificate, and extra watch straps. Echo/Neutra even supplies its own tool to make changing the straps easy.
